The quiet plot
Not everyone wants the weather. The Longhouse sits on the landward flank of Aldern Point, in eight-tenths of an acre of mature shore pine, and it sees the sea through one tall slot window rather than through a wall of glass.
It is warmer, quieter and about forty per cent cheaper to run than the cliff houses. It is also the only one of the three you can reach without a four-wheel drive in February.
Timber that has already burned
The cladding is shou sugi ban: cedar charred, brushed and oiled. On this coast that matters more than it looks like it should — charred timber does not need repainting, and salt air destroys paint in about four years.
The base course is board-formed concrete to 1.2 metres, which is where the deer and the winter damp both stop.

This plot is currently reserved. I list it because reservations on new build fall through more often than resale, and because it tells you what this practice is building. If it becomes available I will contact the people who asked, in the order they asked.
